Millenium Buys Action-Heavy Somali Pirate Script, Hopes for New "Expendables"

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Millenium Films has acquired "High Value Target," a high-concept action project written by Spenser Cohen, a person familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

The film, which will also mark Cohen's directorial debut, chronicles Mantis, a lethal special-operations unit that attacks a boat operated by Somali pirates. In an effort to ramp up the realism, much of the story will be told with point of view cameras attached to members of the unit.

It has been described as "Black Hawk Down" meets "The Raid: Redemption" since the vast majority of the film covers the raid, which transpires in one location - the boat.

The deal is for low six figures, a total that could rise if the film proceeds. Millennium, the company behind "The Expendables," sees the project as a potential low-budget action franchise. The story of this special unit can be retold with new, similarly tantalizing targets.

The company did not immediately return a request for comment.

Cohen, a USC film school grad, developed the project with Zachary Luna, who shares a story credit.

Tripp Vinson is producing with Brooklyn Weaver, who manages Cohen at Energy Entertainment. Liza Zambri is executive producing and Anna Halberg is co-producing.
