Thunder center Kendrick Perkins and Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph had a heated exchange on Wednesday night that resulted in both players being ejected with 2:05 remaining in the fourth quarter.
But, apparently, the incident didn?t end there.
The NBA is investigating an alleged postgame confrontation between Perkins and Randolph. Following Memphis' 107-97 win in Oklahoma City, security officials said there was no altercation and that there would be no investigation, according to The Oklahoman.
The NBA came back on Thursday and said it would look into the matter, with possible suspensions and/or fines on the way for Perkins and Randolph.
Neither player was willing to elaborate on the incident after the game. The most reporters got came from Randolph, who said, ?It wasn?t nothin?.?
Judging from what ESPN cameras caught before the ejections, there was clearly something going on between Perkins and Randolph. Whether their outburst at the free-throw line was a spur of the moment reaction or the result of gradual frustration was unclear at that moment. Their words, however, were clear as day.
?I?m going to meet you by the bus,? Perkins said.
?I?ll beat your (expletive),? Randolph responded.
With the NBA still looking into the matter, Perkins spoke to The Oklahoman on Thursday, explaining what brought about his episode with Randolph.
?Just too much talking,? he said. ?I wasn't frustrated, but at the same time I have a problem with losing. ? You do have to see this team three more times and we can't be showing no signs of weakness.?
